~StarStruck~ Our trip to D.C. to Meet Jasmine and Learn a little about ourselves, too!

After I dropped the kids off at school on Thursday, Lisa and I drove up to D.C.  We were excited to go to see Jasmine Star speak and were hoping to meet her and some other photographers, along the way.  I have never had the pleasure of breathing the same air as Jasmine, but I follow her blog religiously, read her magazine Exposed, and bought her creativeLIVE teaching tools.  Jasmine is amazing and a true inspiration in an industry where people seem to nit pick one another to death, guard secrets like they work for the FBI and sharing, well…now that is NOT done.  But that is not who I am, and it is NOT who Jasmine is.   She truly believes that “a rising tide raises all ships”.  

So this is what I learned at the fix.  I learned that I really need to put myself out there more, be more exposed, so that people can decide whether they like me or not.  I won’t lie, this is definitely hard for me.  I want people to like me.  I think I give off a vibe that I don’t care if people do, but that is a defense mechanism (hello therapy!).  I am a very sensitive person and honestly I do care what people think…so sometimes, I think I hold stuff back and don’t say what I really feel in fear that I will alienate someone…or someone will judge me badly.  But I am going to work on this…because Jasmine is right…for every person that doesn’t like me…there is someone who does.  And I would rather work for the people that like me for who I am, not for who I pretend to be.  So yes, I love being a Wife and a Mother, I am happy watching and coaching soccer, I watch reality T.V. (and Love it), I like all types of music, even pop, I LOVE SARCASM, Adore Chuck Taylor’s, am a bit of a perfectionist and a control freak (okay maybe more than a bit), I laugh WAY TOO LOUD and I really am a sap that cries at, well almost everything…I will continue to give more of myself to you, my clients, because you allow me to be a part of such special moments in your lives.   Thank you Jasmine for giving so much of yourself and encouraging me to be myself.   It was an honor attending theFix and meeting so many special people and it was an honor meeting you!

The D.C. Sculpture garden, where I almost got thrown out for trying to take a photo of a giant spider for True.  Then it was on to the Gala Theater for theFix!  Thanks again Jasmine for everything!
