Norfolk Event Photographer ~Horizons Hampton Roads, Roasts the Three Bruces~

I was truly honored to be asked by Jill Brown of Sunkissed Events to photograph the Charity event for Horizon’s Hampton Roads. This is a very unique charity that helps children attend a six-week summer enrichment program to help keep them academically, artistically and socially challenged, to help close the achievement gap and avoid the summer brain drain. I am thrilled to have been able to help such an amazing organization. There were a ton of great Silent auction items and an exciting live auction, but I was totally entertained by the Roast of the Three Bruce’s. Hall of Fame, Defensive End, Bruce Smith ,Wavy TV Sportscaster, Bruce Radar, and President and CEO of GoldKey/PHR Inc. Bruce Thompson, along with the help of Comedian, Jason Cooper, all took turns roasting each other. It was hysterical and they were all great sports. I know a lot of money was raised for this amazing charity and I am so glad that Jay and I were there to be a part of it. Thanks Horizons for having us!

Norfolk Family Portrait Photographer ~Sena, Aba & Edem~

I have known Sena for years, since she was pregnant with her first child, Aba. I had the pleasure of working with her, way back when I was still working as a nurse, at St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children. She is a great nurse, a wonderful Mom and a Gorgeous Woman. I always love our sessions because we get time to catch up on what’s going on in each other’s lives and I get to see how big her BEAUTIFUL kids are getting. Aba and Edem are adorable and I always have the best time chasing them around. Aba is very cooperative and a true model. She will do anything you ask her to. Edem is so sweet and cuddly and I could seriously kiss his luscious cheeks for the whole session and never take a single picture and would be happy with that!

A quick sneak peek of this beautiful Family! I have been lucky enough to photograph them since the adorable Aba was an infant and now she is in pre-school! Edem is so gorgeous and I seriously have to resist kissing his cheeks throughout the whole session, and Sena always looks great and I LOVE her new hair cut! Just a quick one to tide you over! I always make this little guy model for me when I am trying something new. I was practicing using my new expodisc (which helps to get the best custom white balance at the time of shooting). He was bored quickly, but still let me use his beautiful mug for a few minutes. Thanks True!

Just wanted to take a quick minute to brag on my kid…not because she made honor roll again, while carrying three high school classes, in 7th grade…(though she did)…but because her unique sense of self and amazing sense of confidence at a time when most of us have lost our way and have no idea who we are and where we are going. Morgan you are a true joy in our lives. We know life isn’t always roses and sometimes we all lose our way, but you are a great kid and we are so proud everyday to call you ours! Love you baby!!

Practicing Back Button Focusing and 1.2 Aperture

There are lots of goals I have set for myself this year. Some are business related, some personal. One that I am working on to make me a better photographer is back button focus. If you don’t know about this, it is using a button in the back of your camera to focus giving you more control over your focal points. To read more about it, here is an article on back button focusing. I absolutely LOVE it and really feel like it is taking my photography to another level. Another thing I am working on mastering, is shooting with the aperture at 1.2. 1.2 has many distinct advantages. It is the widest aperture and will allow the most light into the camera, so is ideal for tricky lighting situations. But it is a finicky focal length and if you are not very careful you will find that you have only focused on one small point in the photo and the rest is blurred. So I am practicing this with two of my favorite subjects…Morgan and Truman! Here are some photos from our shoot in the back yard the other night…all of these are at 1.2…love the look!

And one last thing to leave you with…I hear all the time how much Morgan and I look exactly alike, but she is 1000 time more gorgeous and stylish than I will ever be…for proof, this is me at the same age…

Jay and I met when we were in college. We were friends for a long time before we started dating. We had been dating about a week, when I had a bad accident. I fell almost 20 feet on to concrete breaking several bones and smacking my head really hard. Since I had to use a walker to get around with my broken pelvis, (super sexy, right??), Jay offered to let me live at his house because my walker did not fit up and down the stairs at my own college home. That was the beginning of the end for us. Jay and I have been together ever since, and I am so thankful that we are. He is seriously my better half. He makes me a better person and I am so lucky that I get to spend my life with my best friend in the whole world. He is the most caring, gentle, kind, sweet, level-headed, thoughtful Man I know.

So happy birthday my love! Thank you for being my companion on this crazy ride called life. Love those gorgeous eyes! Whistle Whistle!!

Norfolk Virginia Teen Portrait Photographer ~Haley is Gorgeous!~

Haley is one of our newest additions to the soccer team this season, and when her Mom asked if I would take some headshots of her I was more than happy to oblige. Not only is Haley stunningly gorgeous, but she is a riot to hang out with. She LOVES One Direction (especially Harry) and is looking forward to going to see them perform this summer. She has also been working very hard at soccer this season and we are so happy that she joined the team. Thanks for the fun afternoon, Haley!
